whats the best choice of browser...

ok i no its not tech related but i had to ask somewhere...

ive known for a while that MS werent planning on releasing IE.7 for 2K so i was wondering if i do need to change and if so to what?...

i dont need a browser that stops cookies or has a firewall of any type...it just has to b reasonably secure...

    ty...

If there was a "Best" browser, it would be the only one! Depends what your needsare. Some web sites use activeX (ugh) and only really work well with IE. Other browsers offer tabbed pages and are multi platformed (opera and Firefox work on Windows, Mac and Linux) so you can have a common browser environment across different PCs. All the trhee popular browsers (IE, Opera and Mozilla/firefox) have embedded e mail support 'built in. All are reasonably secure, all have some security holes that haven't been plugged (yet alone discovered!) yet. IE may be the more vulnerable because there are many more copies out there, and the saddos that get pleasure in trying to wreak havoc have a potentially bigger target group to satisfy their pathetic little egos. Opera and Firefox can be downloaded and tried out. A google search will bring up some of the security issues. Try them and see which one you like...

Downlaod a couple and give them a whirl. I currently have firefox, opera and avast on various machines. Tend to use avast the most as its based on IE, so just about all sites work.

Personally, I like Firefox, especially considering the extensions you can get, but Opera is nice to use as well.

As herulach said, insulting people really isn't sensible - Hexus is a friendly place, so please keep respect for others.

Avant Browser front end for IE is my mainstay, makes IE more functional. And Opera is always good.
TBH, i have all Firefox installed too & flit between the three.

Opera or Firefox. Use both for a month, and read guides on them both at the beggining of that month, so as to be able to get the best out of both of them. Be prepared to spend a few hours tweaking them over their trial month too. Opera to get a theme you like and to get the UI exactly as you want it(since its totaly fully customisable) and Firefox to also get the theme as you want it, but to also get the various extentions you might want to use.

I reckon its a toss up between Opera and firefox myself, with firefox being better because of extentions/plug-ins and Opera being better because of the fully customisable UI, I go with Opera because of the UI, although I can fully understand people going with FF for the extentions.

I'm a IE fanboy () and have been using 7.0 Beta for a while now, and I find it both fast and reliable. Unfortunately, IE 7 may or may not come out for 2k (I guess it depends on the reaction Microsoft get from their more influential customers). For now, I'd go Opera or Firefox, or maybe even try Flock out, which seems to be getting quite a good reception.

Flock is quite good, in someway more suitable to the mass than FF is. But i find the way is not directly compatible with FF extension and importing stuff from FF keep me away from it. Steals all the fun customizing FF

Well excuse me mate. How was i treating you like a moron? I was just stating that there has been a huge amount of discussion on browsers on these forums, which there has. Some very good and long threads are to be found and can be useful as well you own. I was trying to be helpful to a new forum member, don't be so paranoid or rude dude. I was not being rude to you. Many people on here would give you the same advice, it's in no way meant as an insult so i don't appreciate being insulted myself.

For what it's worth, i have tried all the major browsers and i am most impressed with firefox and much prefer it to Oprera and I.E.. Mainly due the the low system footprint, tabbed browsing (which i could not live without, especially with forums) and the great selection of extensions. Try it, you might like it.

ive been online for years now and a member of Hexus for a bit so i had looked around for an answer to my question/problem...perhaps i wasn't as thorough looking as perhaps i should have been but i saw no harm in asking the opinion of ppl who i regard as knowing more than me IT wise...it was the off hand reply to my question that got my back up and ive apologised...

as for the moron comment i apologise for that also...

as for Opera...all i can say is TY for the information ppl cos it rocks *turns back on IE forever*...
