Darkness in games

yet another problem

today my computer has decided to not display anythign in games, the basic problem is, once a game loads it goes to a black screen, tried this with 1.6,source, and COD, i can see the loading screen but on the main menu on 1.6 and source i just get a black screen, the game has loaded ok, becuase i can hear the soudns on mouseover of the buttons, but it wont display, it was working fien last night, not sure what could have stuffed it, any ideas?

been and tried that, upgraded drivers too, and went from DX9.0B TO 9.0C, was hoping someone would have had this problem before and be able to prvoide a quick fix or reason behind it

Read that this could be due to a refgresh rate issue :s, is ther any way to alter the refresh rate of the game via the shortcut that launches it?

How do you be believe this problem relates to refresh rates, is the game is attempting to use a too high refresh rate for the resolution?

If you don't use it, try Refresh Force, it might help your issue.

Does the screen just go blank, or does the mo nitor go into standby? if it is standby then yeah soulnds like a refresh thing (monitor shutting down to protect itself)
