    Please help CPUFAN fault

My next door neighbour asked if I could take a look at their PC for them. I asked what the problem was and they said that it just shut down and when they tried to boot it back up it just ocntinually beeped showing a message on screen saying "cpufan does not function properly" and then it shut down. It did this every time they tried. I opened the case up and powered it up to find the cpufan wasnt spinning so off I went and got them a new one. Ive fitted the new fan and it is spinning when I boot it up but the message and the beeps are still there, does anyone have any ideas? It wont let me do anything, like go in to the cmos.

    Thanks

Does the new fan have an rpm signal lead (i.e. are there 3 leads to the mobo header plug)?
    Have you tried clearing CMOS?

Clear CMOS jumper or remove the battery.

    Hi Buff.

After clearing cmos it may be a good idea to go into bios and check temp readings etc.....and boot with optimised defaults.

Ok I have cleared the cmos by removing the battery and the first time I tried to boot up after it, the pc booted successfully. I then shut down and tried to reboot but the cpufan does not function properly message came back. I tried clearing the cmos again but it never worked this time.. Any ideas?

Give this a try remove the power lead from the computer, locate the cmos jumper on the M/board usually named "bat1" or "clr cmos" it has 3 pins note which pins are connected, remove jumper and connect to the pin that was not connected leave for 15/20 seconds replace jumper to first position reconnect power lead and boot up. hope this method works
