    Unhappy new pc problems :(

ok well just built my new pc and it was working... kinda, i set it up one night an everything was fine then the next day it wouldnt boot up so i opened it up and found out the graphics cards fan wasnt starting it would like jolt but not power up.

so i took out the card an reseated it and i reseated all the power connectors for my drives and it started up, but today i get in and it wont start again and i cant get the card to work now the fan on it just jolts, a few times the fan has actually started spinning for a few secs then jus powers down again, ive tried reseating it and everything, u can still hear the pc start up from the speakers except no display.

    specs are:

    amd64 3800+
    asus a8n-e
    inno3d 6800gt
    2x 512mb geil ram
2x 80gb hitachi deskstar sata in stripe
2 dvd drives and floppy drive
2 case fans and akasa evo33 cooler
    thermaltake 430w

i dunno if its a graphics card problem or psu problem although i think my psu should be able to handle it as it did run before, any suggestions ?

had a similar problem with exactly the same gfx card. This wont help but it had me confused for hours with the PC in bits then all of a sudden when I put it together for the millionth time it worked. I would suggest strippin down the system and SLOWLY putting it all back together, perhaps trying a power up at each stage to see if a particular component is to blame. That aside, like Buff said, ur PSU is borderline, although I have a thermaltake 480W with 4 HDs running

well got it working last night, but this morning its the same old story, i dont think its the psu because i have tried it with all the fans and drives disconnected and still no joy, what seems to get it to work is just switching it on and off till it eventually powers up, although when it powers up for the first time it will power up the rest of that day no matter how many times i shutdown my pc an start it back up but the next day it just wont seem to work

maybe ive got a little short somewhere perhaps? or maybe a faulty fan on the gfx, would the gfx card still run if the fan wasnt working ?

yes in some cases it would, I recently replaced the fan on my 6800GT with an artic cooler, best thing I ever did, 5C temp drop and almost silent, also so easy to install. If ur inno is a reference design like my XFX 6800gt u r more than welcome to my old gfx hsf which was fully workin when I removed it, let me know. that aside a short is a very possible reason for ur problem and I have seen it in the past, my bad for not rememberin

since ive narrowed it down to the card i think ill replace the fan, cos if their was a short the pc wouldnt boot at all i dont think.

is their a way to test the fan first incase the card itself is faulty ?

short of stikin it in a m8s PC not really. If new consider an RMA back to the supplier, purchasing a new gfx hsf if the card is faulty wont help. If the card works in a friends PC then by all means get the fan replaced, if ur local to Hertfordshire ur welcome to have my stock cooler for free, prob the same as ur faulty one except it has XFX branding

If you replace the fan and its still faulty you will have probably made your warranty invalid anyway.

If its still under warranty then just get it RMA'd, its not worth the possiblity of losing out on the warranty just for replacing the cooler.
