CD and DVD writer drives not working in vista

All been fine up to now but this evening when I turned on my pc, windows has a problem with both of my optical drives.

Both are shown in device manager but it is saying it cannot initialise the device driver for each drive.
I have tried uninstalling them from device manager and rebooting and even made sure I have the latest bios with no joy. When I search for driver updates, it says I have the latest ones.

All connections are ok. Drives are on the only IDE port on my mobo as master and slave and were like this on my prev pc(and my new rig) with no probs until now.

Any ideas?

Backup your registry first, then try this - Deleting Upper and Lower Filters

Had the same problem with my two drives and Vista, but the above solved it.
