Nightmare installing Nvidia Nforce drivers..
Ok, so I upgraded my pc last night;
Epox 8NPA+ Ultra, A64 4000+, X1800XT, 2x1gig Corsair XMS.
But I'm having a nightmare with drivers :(
First time I installed Windows I installed the Nforce drivers from the mobo disc, everything went ok I could get onto the internet via my router to download the new Nforce set - though I didn't know which one applied to my motherboard so I ended up getting "Nforce 4 AMD" and that seemed a sensible choice from the options :). Anyway, installed these drivers & towards the end it said I need to remove the forceware (firewall etc.) before continuing, so I allow it to uninstall these things & reboot.. on booting something complains it can't find an .exe; but I ignore it for now and install the drivers again.
Everything seems ok, but after rebooting Windows bluescreens randomly after about 5-10seconds.
So I give up and re-format/re-install Windows.
Second try..
This time round I think, it'll be a good idea to uninstall the old nvidia stuff first..
So I do..
Then Windows won't boot because its missing "nv<blah>.dll". Doh.
So, back to the drawing board (or as I like to call it, re-formatting).
Third try..
I figure, pft what the hell I'll just use the old drivers off the disc and get my new pc working.. do this, everything is ok - then I download the latest cats & install them..
Get the error cli.exe failed to initialise properly on boot - a bit of investigation and I figure out its because the cat control centre requires .Net 1.1 sooo Windows update it is.
Run Windows update, it installs the verifier, updates itself and so forth then asks for a reboot.
After the reboot, seemed like explorer was taking forever to start.. eventually a popup comes from Nvidia firewall type thing helpfully telling me that it couldn't work because something (gee..) had changed my Windows files or settings, but for me not to worry because it had cleverly fixed them all again (yes, "oh no" ran through my mind, quite rightly so).
So.. I wait.. and wait.. and explorer just never initialises :), if I end all nv* tasks & run explorer I can get it up.. but opening a web browser crashes :)..
Thats as far as I got last night (~2am) before realising I had work today and so I gave up.
Advice Please? :(
Oh and to add more woe to my case, it seems Scan have sent me Corsair XMS with the timings 3-3-3-8, instead of the 2-3-3-6 I ordered *cry*.
Re: Nightmare installing Nvidia Nforce drivers..
1. nforce doesn't tell me anything , I need to know if it's nforce2 nforce3 nforce4
At the moment only a few manufacturers have released Socket 754 nForce4 SLI motherboards, notably Albatron and Epox. Since both manufacturers are smaller, it makes us wonder if this has slipped below nVIDIA's radar. Officially the nForce4 SLI is supposed to only be a Socket 939 platform (dual channel DDR and all that), and this could explain why none of the Tier one motherboard manufacturers have released similar products.
This the kind of thing that makes me wonder who's running the computer industry
and who's in charge of regulation , probably a bunch of monkies who slide passed government control and regulation , thats why we're all in this computer nightmare to begin with , parts makers with no concern for standards they just do what ever they think is good for their wallet.
as of 2008 the video card industry is under investigation , I hope the feds crack down on them so hard for all the lies they've told and all the money they've pocketed from made up prices.
thats why america is in a slump right now because these vendors are unregulated and unsupervised and they sell rediculously overpriced garbage
which gets shipped back to china and beiging and many other places that want to kill americans.
Your problem may even be farther solved by a serious criminal law suit against the ePox the company that made your board.
I can smell ePox going down the tubes , I refuse to even own one of their boards for out right fear of the lack of support like you just described.
it's time to call a lawyer.
Re: Nightmare installing Nvidia Nforce drivers..
It's "time to call a lawyer", because of problems installing drivers :O_o1:

Hey I vote for a thread lock too because we're all friggin stupid.
first off starburn there said he applied the wrong drivers on his nforceboard
secondly we're all stupid for saying anything at all to him since he knows what he did wrong
If we really wanted to help him we would mention that he should
1. Download and install ALL of his windows updates and service packs
2. Downdload and install the CORRECT drivers for his motherboard
There IS a cure for stupid , it's called READ THE PHUCKIN MANUAL !
If anyone thinks they wanna bump with me , I live at
