    LCD backlight bleed... I think

I've recently started to notice what I think is pretty severe backlight bleeding on my LCD. It only happens near the top of the panel, and it also appears to be a ghost of my firefox toolbar!

Is there anything I can do to help prevent / revert this? Or is it just an inherent flaw with my particular panel that i'm gonna have to live with?

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but my Windows DPI is set lower than standard...

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here ya' go. I used a solid green background to show it up...

That's very odd - normally you'd expect the centre of the bleed to originate from where the screen meets the bezel and then radiate outwards. Here for example (image courtesy of Agent ). Yours seems to originate from about 1cm or so from the edge of the bezel is very unusual and don't radiate uniformly.

Its also not something that usually occurs over time - either the panel has it or it doesn't. Its almost as if the transisters themselves are faulty and not twisting each pixel or subpixel in the same way so that they all light up unformly.

I could be wrong, but I'm not so sure that's backlight bleed - it looks more like pixels or the transisters themselves (entire lines of them) are failing or starting to fail or that current isn't being fed to them uniformly. What do those areas of the screen look like on a non black/green screen?

Not so sure that there's much you can do other than claim under the warranty.

They look much the same when showing any colour, it just shows up most on green, and hardly at all on black...

but what's with the shapes on the left.. I'm *sure* those are my firefox buttons... (you need to look closely at the top left of the image, make sure you're zoomed in)

I zoomed it and you're right - its weird - round splodges etc. The one of the far right looks like a polo "O" shape. Bit like screen burns you would get on the really really old CRT monitors. Certainly doesn't look like backlight bleed at all - more like the transisters failing or pixels not twisting properly.

Presumably its an old monitor / old panel?

Doubt that its something that you'd be able to fix - taking apart the panel and fixing whatever chemicals and transisters are between the pane of glass and film isn't really a DIY job!

Nope, it's a Xerox Xa7 19i... About 6 months old, I think, although i'd have to check my records.

If it's six months old I'd RMA it, no 6 month old TFT should be doing things like that.
