Hmm, it's telling me I should back up everything on my PC before I install SP2. I don't have a DVD burner or any form of external/slave hard drive, and I really don't want to go through the trouble of getting one just for this. Is there really that much of a risk of my data being deleted? Or am I being paranoid?

I certainly didn't when I installed the service pack but I guess there is always a risk that something could go wrong. TBH though, it's quite unlikely. If you have files that you really don't want to lose then if you have two hard disks, make sure they are on the one that doesn't contain the OS. If you don't have two hard disks, you could copy any important files to USB flash drive or something. If you don't have that, I'd just install it anyway.
