    Smile Toshiba Laptop Spares?.

Hey all, tried upgrading the P3 cpu in the wifes Tecra 8100 lappy tonight which turned out to be a little bit of a no go as i had been sent the wrong bleedin' chip off eBay . Anyway, while the lappy was in bits i noticed the thick 'thermal conductor' (straight from the Tosh service manual!) pad that sits on the core was a bit ratty. I think the gap would be too much to be bridged by thermal paste tbh, does anyone know a phone number or email address for somewhere i might be able to get a replacement pad?. Hopefully i should have the right cpu soon and would like to replace this at the same time if possible.

You can actually use normal thermal compound (a few of the VAIOs I've worked one were treated with Ceramique or any non-conductive stuff and work a treat especially as that yellow paste they use tends to turn brittle after a while). The stuff you need - is it a regular square of compound or the silicone-type cloth that's used on the memory chips of Nvidia stock coolers? I've no idea where to get the exact item you need but you're welcome to have a whole bunch of these cloth squares (they're about 1cm square apiece) as I'm never going to put the stock coolers back on

A good site for spares for toshibas, new and second user, is www.sparesweb.com or www.server-parts.com

They have full parts listings and exploded parts diagrammes at

    http://www.sparesweb.com/Spares/Toshiba.htm

    And service manuals at

    http://www.sparesweb.com/service%20manuals/Toshiba.htm

you can normally talk to an engineer in real time by cliking on their live chat link.
