    Flashing a BIOS off a CD AND CPU Brand IDs

    Okies.
    I need to flash my BIOS, but I have no working floppy drive.
    Can I just create a bootable CD and run it off there as if it were the floppy?
    Or is there a utility which will let me do an update in windows?
    It's an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, and I'm after the v1.B bios (9/9/05).

    ALSO can anybody tell me if the brand ID as displayed by CPU-z is the same as the processor stepping? E.g. if CPU-z displays "Brand ID 4", is this an E4 processor?

    Thank you!!!

    Some boards will let you do it from windows, but a bootable cd will definately work, just bear in mind you wont be able to back up your old bios.

    I always flash in windows.

    No wait that sounds wrong... you know what I mean!
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    That explains the reason why camera sales are down in Bristol then.

    I too use a variety of flashing tools within the Operating System to update my system. Thanks Asus

    ... Actually, I now prefer to flash the ROM this way as theres options to verify everything a few times, just to make sure there are no "issues".

    Then if I need to reset my BIOS, if my PC freezes I just restart the system holding the INS key on power on and after a few seconds it's back alive like the CMOS has been cleared, but I've not had to take the panels off the PC and mess with the jumpers on my mobo which are nanometers away from the SATA ports and hidden behind all 8 ports.

    Sir, thank you very much!

    I had never seen this WinFlash before, and it took some googling to find a download that wasn't for a specific bios/company and wasn't the WinFlash Flashcard learning program...

    However, I found it, ran it, it restarted the PC, there was no bleep, blank screen of death. Tried the reset button. Nothing.

    Hmmmmm. Opened her up, reset the CMOS, booted fine, WITH the new bios!

    Excellent!

    Thanks guys.

    Oh and my second question - the Brand ID is the same as the stepping, I have now found.
