    Medusa 5.1 Connectivity Problem

Got my medusa 5.1 headphones through today, but have a problem using them as surround sound

I have conected them up, but cannot seem to get any sound at all form the "front left" or "front right". I have tried every possible combination of wiring it up, but in the end gave up.

It is just like blind spot when sound tries to come form front right/left when i do a 5.1 test.

I am using the onboard karajan sound on my dfi nf4. Think it is more likely to be the sound card or the headphones? or a user error

Throw some thoughts at me people....this is doing my head in runnning surround sound headpohnes in stereo mode

first thought is you've plugged the cables in wrong but as you say you have tried every combination then i dont know tbh unless you've got a faulty set? have you tried swapping the front and rear jacks to see if the front speakers do actually work?

cables should go blue cable to black jack , red cable to orange jack and green to green

if you already have it like that and the software is set up right (check the jack auto sensing settings) then switch the green and blue cables round and if the rear out on the sound test works then you know the front speakers do actually work

and for chrsit sake make sure the little switch on the headphone cable is set to DVD not CD.

Or you'll have two speakers missing.

Which to me means you have...AND you've got the plugs in the wrong holes too

    ok....

firstly, Zak you had me very very worried when yu said that, but i am positive i dont have a switch on the headphone cable. I only have 4 dials to change individual volume of each channel, and yes they are all turned right up

da_ging I tried the exact way you said, and still no sound, in the sound config it is set to 6ch, but even with 2, 4 of 8ch the "front" does not work.

I tried connecting a normal speaker set to the "front" output of my soundcard, and got no sound at all. Am I to assume that the front on my sound card is broken?

If your sound card is creative and you have been using it in 2 speaker configuration, it is likely you need to change that configuration by software to enable 5.1

tried em connected to dvd player(only in stereo) but the front speakers worked fine. also if i turn up the "front" channel i ehar some background static, so the speakers must be working. im putting it down to soundcard.

right - iam guessing youve set your 5.1 sound card to run in 5.1 and youve now got the cables plugged in right now...

The surround sound setup as it is, has the centre and sub channels reversed which our friends over at Gurureview failed to notice. I first noticed this during play back of Saving Private Ryan where dialogue was almost in audible and most of the audio was being over powered by booming so loud that the headphones were vibrating off of my head! Some cards have their centre and sub channels reversed which must of been the case for Speed-link when designing these headphones, but the vast majority (including Creative and Hercules) do not. You must use the extender cables to reverse the centre and sub channels and then the setup will work correctly.
    See here

This may be causing some problem... not to sure about it though.

there should only be 3 dials for volume... fron back and centre.. there IS a small slider switch next to the centre volume control that says DVD/CD on it tho...

    see in the picerture
