    Hi guys,

Wondering if any of you can help me, I've got a Win XP SP2 install running completely stable, however, on going to get Windows Updates recently ive been getting the 0x800705AA error, which from a little research means 'ERROR_NO_SYSTEM_RESOURCE' I find that quite hard to believe as I have 1.5 gb of RAM, a decent processor and a large hdd. Any Ideas?

    Many Thanks

You only get it when running Windows Update or does it happen at any other time?
Have you installed and run the Windows Genuine Advantage update? I've only seen this on machines that either installed and failed or have refused to install.

Please note that this is not an accusation, merely an observation based on my own experience.

Yea no offence taken - I went legit because of the WGA rubbish, that and with going to uni I dunno what to expect with their tech depts. Nah the WGA runs fine, verifies my installation and goes happily on it merry way. However the subsequent updates dont?

can you download an update from the Windows Update Catalogue and manually apply it?

In my experience (and I really don't know why!) there will occasionally be a download or 3 that you have to manually download from the catalogue and install. Have you tried that?

I hope to learn a bit more about the mysteries of Windows Update over the next few months when I put in place my company's new internal update infrastructure (wSUS server)

Could you let me know how that goes? we would like to do something similar, as we have major problems when windows update releases a load of new patches - one of our systems has an update system built in, but the other 2000 based domain doesn't, would be of interest if you could get it working.

Yea I think ill go the route of downloading them from the KB, and see if the rest then install on their own - otherwise format C: /u

will do - it's pretty well documented by Microsoft. SMS will pretty much take care of it for you (which I suspect is what your "self updating" system does) but I'll be implementing WSUS
