    USB issue...

One of my builds is having a problem. When the PC boots, devices that are already plugged into USB (like the modem / printer etc.) won't be recognised. The USB leads have to be unplugged and plugged in a few times before Windows takes note of them... does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

    Many thanks.

As weird as it sounds i think this could be a power issue, i found that on some of my USB devices i was drawing power for running them, and as such with the number of devices i had connected some would not be recognised. I've swapped about the usb sockets and all is now fine.

Don't know if its the same problem but worth a try i'd say?

I agree with TiG, USB ports cannot supply unlimited power and all devices do not use the same amount of power. Use your judgement to decide what USB device requires the most power, for example a usb memory stick would fall behind a webcam and spread your devices accordingly, if you're using a USB hub, plug the most power hungry devices direct into the rear of your machine, the lesser into the hub.
