    DVD-RW problem

I recently got myself a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D Drive, however after installing it there seem to be a rather large problem occuring.

When there's nothing in the drive, it's detected as a DVD-RW drive and is displayed as that in 'My Computer' but unlike my CD-RW drive i can't access this like to drag and drop files in to burn to it. The other problem is whenever i put in a DVD-RW to write onto, then 'My Computer' thinks the drive is now just a standard CD Drive. So all in all i can't actually write any DVD's atm. I asked a friend about it, and apparently he's had the same problem and not been able to fix it, and DVD's can't be written even when using programmes such as Nero.

Any help would be really greatful, ty.

Have you tried flashing the drive to the latest version? I had a similiar problem with one when i bought it. I couldn't even read any disk, I updated it to the latest version and haven't had any problems since.

There should be a program included with the drive to allow you to flash it, if not, do a google search or check the manufacturer's website.

Which version of Nero is it? Is it an OEM version that came free with another drive?

I went and flashed the drive and have still got the same problems. The drive can read a standard DVD though, just can't write anything

umm, i don't have nero, i was just saying that a m8 of mine has the same problem and it happens when trying to burn with nero aswell not just the standard windows thing.

try right clicking on the drive in my computer and disabling the windows cd burning. this worked for me on a pioneer 106 and an older version of nero. properties->recording->then untick enable recording on this device.

    good luck.

I did what Max Tractor said to do and it works with Nero now. Doesn't work with the windows thing still, thinks it's a CD-Drive when a DVD is put it there. But as i said, works with nero so all is good

Dude, windows cannot burn to dvds. Only a progam like nero can thats why its asks for a cd. It CAN however use its built-in DVD RAM engine to burn to DVD RAM disc without the help of a secondary app. But the poineers dont support that I think only the LGs.
