    Fitted new case, CMOS error

Hi, I recently installed a new case and upon finaly getting the 24pin ATX extension lead I powered up the pc to a continues alarm. I unplugged the speaker as the system appeared to be loading and I wanted to see if the boot yielded any error messages. The message went along the lines of:
    cmos default settings loaded
    cmos error
    Hit F1 to continue

I hit F1 and windows loaded fine, but obviously this is not good. So the question is after taking apart a pc and rebuilding it, is it nessasery to clear the cmos with the jumpers?

    Thanks noobie Rhyth

if the only thing that has changed is the case then no, CMOS shouldn't need resetting. Are you 100% sure you haven't changed anything else? If not you may have a short circuit or a dying CMOS battery.

The only thing that I really changed was removing the cpu fan from an arctic freezer 7 and ofcourse plugging in more fans and front usb iso's. Other than that everything is as it was... The battery on the mobo is only a year old aswell.

Do you get it every time you boot the machine?

I reckon its prob a dud battery and not being connected to the mains for a while. Try unplugging it, throwing the isolator on the psu whn you go to bed, if it does it again after that then you need a new cmos bat.

    Fixed

Thanks for the help fellas, I seem to have fixed it Ok I unplugged the rear fan from the sys fan plug and plugged it in to a spare aux fan plug and hey presto! I think that was the problem anyway. I did check the battery connection (pushed it) aswell

What is the differance between a system fan and just an aux fan then, as it would seem to have an effect on the cmos settings.

    Thanks Rhyth.

The system fan is tied in with the bios so if the cpu was to overheat then it would give an alarm warning as it reads temperatures,it also has a sensor for speed control of the fan.

The aux fan connection is just that --a connection, a power supply.
