    dvdrw problem

My PC has a LG GSA4160B dvd-rw drive which can also record to dvdram at 4x. It was working fine until 10 days ago when all of a sudden XP sees it only as a dvdram drive. Which mean if i burn dvd-r i can only do so but at 4x and not at 40x.

I have searched on this topic and it seems to be common. I have updated firmware, gone back to a previous XP image but the drive still shows up as dvdram drive. Any ideas..

Mine shows up as a dvd ram drive also, no dvd-r drive ever has been able to write at 40x. The correct DVD writing speed for that drive is 16x, and thats only if the media supports it. What is your media rated as? They have a special region that tells the drive what kind it is, so it can adjust its speed accordingly

Your absolutely correct, i was thinking cd-r speeds when i wrote that. Yes it is 8x speed provided i have right media. Just sometime within nero it doesn't recognise it as that. maybe it's a setting i'm missing.
