i just got my Asus A8V-E SE VIA K8T890 (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard and a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 80GB 6V080E0 SATA-II 8MB ive plugged it all in and when i go to install windows it tells me it cant find a hdd i understand u gotta install drivers ive tryed doing this through floppydriver but it wont have anything and comes up witha error.
As you are installing xp did you press f6 and then install the sata drivers?
Have you checked in the bios that sata is enablled?
Does the bios see the sata drive?
The VIA8237 isn't too good about detecting SATA300 drives so you need to jumper the drive to force SATA150 compatibility.
see my thread about 2 links down! if it's anything like the standard AGP version A8V then you can use the promise Raid controller. In the BIOS set the Promise Raid Controller to enabled, set the mode to "IDE mode". To initially detect the hard drive you might have to go into the RAID configuration utility (press TAB on the start up screen) Get the ATA378 (I can't remember the exact number) drivers on a Floppy from the Motherboard driver CD.
Roughly located in Drivers/Promise/ATA378/ - copy the files in the base folder and the appropriate Windows folder (ie WinXP folder if you're using installing Windows XP) ...onto the floppy disk
Go into windows install as normal and get ready to press F6 as normal....away you go.
also if you're thinking of overclocking you HAVE to use the Promise raid controller....the VIA control fragments and corrupts hard drive at anything above 210/215 HTT/FSB.
Strange, on the Abit equivalent (AX8) you can go way past that - even the K8T800 Pro doesn't get flaky until ~260HTTOriginally Posted by cptwhite_uk
