    Replacing Graphic Card

Just joined the Forum and this is my first post

I am waiting delivery of a GeForce 6600GT AGP Graphic Card, this is going to replace the one currently fitted i.e. FX-5500.

Looking inside the Mesh Midi Tower Case I can see no screws to detach the existing card, it appears to be just slotted in.

Would be grateful for advice on how remove the old card, and replace with the new one.

    Many thanks

Any idea what kind of motherboard you have?
Most AGP slots that I have encountered tend to have some kind of locking mechanism that holds the card in place in the slot and a screw to attach the output panel to the case.

    Welcome to Hexus!

As kaos says there is normally a locking mechanism at the back of the AGP slot. Just looked here http://www.ocworkbench.com/2004/asus/a8vdeluxe/g2.htm and it looks like your mobo has one - the little white lever.

Once that is unlocked then you can simply pull the card out of the slot. Sometimes PC bulders secure components with zip ties so just make sure that they haven't done this before you pull the card out.

Installing the new card is easy, just push it in firmly and the lock mechanism will lock it in place. Then attach to the back of the case with a scew as normal. If you do get any problems it will most likely be that the card is not seated properly in the agp slot.

Sorry, it appears that my question was misleading.

The card plugs into the AGP socket, then there is a metal plate that as has the sockets for DVI connection etc. This is normally attached to the back of the system case by two screws. On my Mesh case there are no screws, it appears to be slotted in and held by metal plates.

I have changed Graphic Cards many times on other PC's, but looking at this particular case it is not apparent how you remove the card.

As far as what system do I have, just click on My System and the details are there.

Hope that makes the problem clearer.

Are we talking about how the card is connected to the mobo or how the cables are connected to the graphics card?

if its how the card is held into the board then iirc with Mesh cases sometimes they used a strip of metal to hold ALL the PCI/AGP cards in. That should unclip from one end and lift off, allowing you remove the card.

That sounds like my PC, normally you slot the card into the AGP Socket, then attach the metal plate of the card to the open slot at the rear of the case. As I have said earlier this case does not have any scew holes for any of the PCI cards.

So there must obviously be a way like you say. I have opened the case a few times and thought to myself this could be a problem if want to remove/add a card.

Thanks for the tip - I will have a go at it tomorrow.
