    CMOS Checksum error & Corrupt files

    Sorry to repost but its a slightly different issue. Well my pc is still taking ages on windows laoding screen. But wot i dont udnerstand is everytime i reboot i get the CMOS Checksum Error - Defualts loaded, and i have to reset time and stuff. Also every file i download bar a few are corrupt. Like asus updates/mIRC/ u name it, its downlaods corrupt.

    Checks ive done:
    HD = 100% Fine
    Ram = 100% Fine
    Cpu = Prime/SP2004 , Both 100% fine

    My only guess is the bios battery has gone?

    Ideas lads, and sorry for kinda repost..

    checksum errors suggests a weak battery or corupt bios, if you can get into your bios i guess its not corrupt so mabe try a battery from another system.

    sounds like a battery problem, is the date and time in the bios running slow? The battery though won't cause files to be corrupt, you need to check your network stats for corrupt packets - you may have a bad network connection somewhere.

    Isn't the motherboard constantly taking power from the mains and only needs the battery when it has no power and so it must be a bios ROM corruption?

    It will reset it to the default (safe) settings. It will not revert to a previous revision if you have already flashed the BIOS.

    ok so flashing the bios again could potentially solve the problem, if its a corrupt bios ROM?

    What BUFF said.

    Also, is that SATA drive you're using an SATA II drive? Maxtor released a firmware update for these drives because of compatability problems / corruption with nForce4 chipsets.

    Edit: BTW, I think you need to contact them to get them to send you the firmware update.
