disk partition
rite, i have 1 active partition and the type is non-dos, size 29996mbytes using 15% of my hdd
i want to make a second partition that uses the rest of my hdd but when i try and make a new one it says total disk space is 194474mbytes (which is correct) and maximum space available for partition is 2048Mbytes which is 1% (which is not right it should be 100%)
then it says enter partition size in Mbytes or percent of disk space (%) to create dos partition and wont let me enter higher than 2048Mbytes or 1%!!
any ideas?

2048MB is the maximum of FAT16. Try using a newer version of DOS to partition your disk
The best idea would be to do it inside windows. Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management

trying that now, it says 'maximum disk space in megabytes(MB) 164478
Minimum disk space in MB 8
Patition size (dropdown box) 8 (thats the highest number)

Try using Partition Magic to do it.

when u say non-dos are u using a linux setup with a large swap-partition?
have u checked that the rest of the drive hasn't already been formatted?
