    NF7-s dead?

I just inserted a new stick of 1GB PC3200 DDR 400MHz DIMM Memory, but on bootup the screen stayed on standby and the motherboard emitted a single 2 second beep. I have a pheonix bios, but the beep combination doesn't match any of the suggested problems i could see on here.

I've tried removing the new memory and double checking the two 512 sticks I already had were in place- as far as I can tell everything is fine with the memory but the problem still remains.

    Is my board dead?
And is there any chance that the problem could be dust in the memory slots?

(Specs are:Asus NF7-s; Athlon Barton 2500+; two sticks of 512 memory 3200 DDR- and now the extra 1 gig stick; 6800GT)

Have you tried it with just the new stick ?

Also, you could try resetting CMOS. That involves removing the power lead from the base unit, flipping out the CMOS battery (big circular thing) from the board, waiting 30 secs, reinserting battery and powering up again.

    Good luck

Tried CMOS just now, no success

Also tried the three sticks individually- didn't work either. The strangest thing about the memory sticks was that the board reacted differently to each one when i booted.
The new stick made it emit 1 long beep and then stop..
The first of the old sticks made it give a long beep repeatedly..
With the final one it just went quiet.

In all cases the screen stayed off... i'm guessing i've murdered the mobo?

[edit] the 'first' old stick wasn't actually in properly, it gave the same beep as the new stick when it was properly in place
