hey im trying to install windows XP onto a harddrive but before it boots off of Cd it gives me this whioch i havent a clue about :S

Quick google gives....

1. Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
2. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
3. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
4. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
5. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
6. New hard disk drive being added.
7. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.

8. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

9. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.

Have you got another disk to try?

Have you set the BIOS to boot from CD?

yeh, go into bios and chnage the boot settings so it boots from the CD drive first

yea i did do set bios to boot from cd first, the harddrive is formatted and obivouslythe bios will see it as new hdd beign added?

well if u then put ur windows CD in then it shud ask u to install windows on it.

yep, u kno when it says press anykey to boot from Cd, after i hit a key thats when this comes up...

it shud auto run if ur booting from Disc drive first

As you can see from the screenshot, it is set to boot from cd, and it prompts him to press a key as usual.

Is this an original disc jack?

(I'm not insinuating you pirated a copy, but may have backed up your original install cd, slipstreamed one...etc etc )

opppsy, didnt see that at the top of the screen, yeh gd point, is it the original disc?

Incidentally, how did you format your drive jack?

i had the exact same problem bout a week ago, so i wiped my drive in another PC and then installed windows onto it in mine. worked fine, maybe u shud give that a go if u can.

Do you have more than one hd installed

I'd go with the CD being non bootable )
