    USB device problems on A8N-SLi

I've got a couple of problems with my XP+A8N-SLi combo. I ran into problems with XP and had to reinstall from scratch. I'm having a couple a problems, maybe some genius can help me with:

    1. USB printing to an Epson printer was very, very slow. It seemed to do a bit, and then pause for a long time. Very infuriating when you're in a hurry - text seemed okay, photo printing was hopeless, (30 minutes to print one 6x4" print!).

    2. In an effort to cure #1 I followed advice and removed my USB drivers and switched the BIOS to P&P. Result: my 1394 ports got marked as unavailable due to lack of resource, and the two USB Host Controllers were also unavailable, due to a code 10 problem. So, now I can't scan, use memory keys or print at all! Undoing the P&P change made no difference.

    3. Don't know whether it's related, but I've got three sets of "Primary IDE Channel", "Secondary IDE Channel" and "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" entries. And nothing I can do seems to be able to remove them, they've been there since the OS rebuild. My machine has dual SATA boot disks and a pair of opticals on the secondary IDE channel.

    4. I can't install either ASUS Update or ASUS Probe - both of these complain that I'm not using a (suitable?) ASUS motherboard. Strange, since the ASUS CD correctly identifies an A8N-SLi Deluxe. I know I should really be asking ASUS about this, but they've got a reputation for zero technical support.

Any suggestions to resolve these - especially the USB problems would be prized! Apart from that, the system's working well.

    Cheers!

    crossy.

go to nvidia webpage www.nvidia.com, then download drivers and then go to the nforce driver section. You need the AMD (non 16X) version. Download and install this and all your problems should be resolved .

For question 4 I assume you're using the logitech (keyboard software. Remember I saw somewhere that the logitech software prevent the asus detection from working properly.

Think this is the thing: http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversi...hp/t14241.html

Edit, might be caused by creative drivers, not really sure about it but I think that thread provides the solution for that problem.

    Thanks fellas,
Arthurleung: Tried that planetamd64 link and the registry edit's let me get ASUS Update installed - still can't get Probe or AIBooster installed - still thinks I ain't got an A8N-SLi!

ExceededGoku - I'd already tried both NVidia's drivers and ASUS's versions. Thanks for taking an interest though!

Strange thing - I'm thinking it must be a driver collision, because if I switch to Safe Mode, then I get a full set of (apparently) working drivers! (It's at this point that I usually resort to banging my head off of the desk!)

I really, really don't want to have to rebuild the PC (again!) but it's no use to me if I can't print, scan, etc.

    Crossy.

Well, this gets wierder. I downloaded Iolo System Mechanic last night (special offer from Zonelabs!) and ran it. It said that there were three items in the startup that were crap and it zapped them.

Logged on this morning and lo and behold everythings working!

Okay, I still can't install ASUS Probe or AI Booster, but at least I can print stuff. Did a A4 print just now of a photograph and it only took 10 minutes - quicker than before, but still slow.

    Don't you just love Windows?!
