Ram for my system

I'm currently using 1gb of Geil Value RAM in my system (2x512mb - 2.5-3-3-6) and seems good but I have read having 2gb would be better (to play Oblivion, etc).

I had a look around for 2gb kits and was wondering whether THESE Corsair Value ram.

My system runs on an Athlon64 3200+ CPU and I read somewhere it is optimised for a certain type of ram (not sure if it's CAS ratings or other)

What sort of difference will I expect between the Corsair value Ram, my current Ram and something like the Corsair XMS series?

On an A64 system you'll notice very little difference between value RAM and XMS series, except in benchmarks. Real world apps will be limited by CPU speed rather than memory bandwidth or latency.

Thanks for the info - but it's definitely better for me to upgrade from 1gb to 2gb?

I would say so. I've been looking into doing the same thing, and the unianimous response I receive to that same question is "yes, definately". Many modern games really benefit from it - reduce stuttering, reduced waiting times, quicker return to desktop. Its even been suggested that with 2Gb RAM you turn turn off the Windows page file.

I'd stick with the Geil, is great Ram for the price, looks good in the system and I have not had any probs at all with it in my main system. Have also used Crucial mid range modules and found no difference whatsoever when playing BF2 or AO3.

nothing but good things to say about corsair. using 2x512Mb 2.5cas 3200 atm and its been nothing but stable. However id always go for another 2 sticks of what youv already got. just seems to be a lot more natural for some reason
