batch image resizing..

Does anyone know how to do batch image resizing, especially in photoshop?

I've got about 200 images to resize, all jpegs, all in different directories, and they have to be resized in those directories, not all save in the same directory.

I've created an "action" to do this, but I can't get around the problem of all the images being save in one directory. This problem is made worse by the fact that all the images have the same file name ("cover.jpg").

Any help appreciated!

Try using alternative software like IrfanView (free)?

Use Find (win+f) to find all the cover.jpg you want to resize, then drag them into the batch conversion window in IrfanView
First do batch-rename (to like cover001, cover002, etc) then batch conversion with advanced option (resize)

I use Paint Shop Pro 9 or X, has the ability to do a batch resize and amend the output file name with an increasing number...

If you want to do it, let me know ill write out how....

Can irfanview or paintshoppro write the resized images back into their originating directories? Each file lives in a different dir.

MS do an image resizing powertoy for XP - it adds an option to the right-click menu. It works well, not sure if it'll do exactly what you want though.

i've used faststone photo resizer for quite a while and it seems to work fine, although I might try track down that powertoy...

I found one the other day that copies the path of the file you've selected to the clipboard and that's been amazingly useful

Look for a program called SizImg its a DOS based command line utility. If you know how to write MS-DOS batch files you can write a front end to SizImg so it does exactly what you want and it will be alot faster than photoshop as it has no GUI.
