Silent Download Box
I'm thinking of building myself a file server and download box. I need it to be absolutely silent though.
I need recommendations on a silent psu, case fan(s), and a silent socket A cpu cooler.
The hardware I've got for it is:
Athlon XP 1900+
256mb DDR333
Jetway 830cf mATX motherboard (passive)
Radeon 9200 (passive)
200gb WD Caviar
I'll also need something to add SATA ports to the pc. Any recommendations on something cheap and reliable?
TIA
EDIT: Should be in .HardStuff. Can a mod please move.

Well for a start i'd say a good old seasonic 380 to about £35 off scan, also they do some panaflo 80mm fans that may be useful in a quiet rig (can be had very cheap if on today only).
You're going to want to try quiet that hard drive I wouldn't have thought that will be silent. Perhaps suspension might help.
What sort of case are you going to use?

I've got a standard beige atx steel case. Might get some sound insulation for it. To be honest, if I can get the pc to the point where the harddrive is the loudest thing in it, I'll be happy.

Could you hide the PC in your loft [or basement, garrage etc] so that you don't care so much about the noise, and then control it remotely using windows remote desktop (or linux)

I've got exactly the same thing as you. What i actually did was buy a cheap bundle PC from Scan from a today only thing. Tis a Althlon XP 2500 Mobile with 1Gb RAM and 5 HDD's in it. Its also got a 2 port SATA card in it, cos I'm using the onboard SATAs.
It sits in my wardrobe happily chugging away 24/7 and I access it via Remote Desktop.
The noise is hardly noticable, even with 2x120mm fans, 2 in the PSU and the socket A cooler going, and its the most of 4 feet from my head as i'm sleeping.
