did you try updating the mainboard chipset out of interest? if that doesnt work i would hazard a guess at corrupted memory, but i cant think of any surefire way of testing gpu memory. any ideas anyone?

also, is the XFX warranty 1 or 2 years? if it's 2 years it's still covered. this is my second card as well.
word to the wise...NEVER BUY XFX!
from a quick google seems they do a "double lifetime warrenty" for you and anyone you sell the card too as long as you registered the card on there site.
might be worth checking out there site. Here's the deal: We will repair and service your 6-Series or 7-Series Graphics Card for as long as you own it. All you have to do is register the card with us online. And, should you sell or transfer the card, we'll honor the warranty for the card's second owner, too, as long as they register it with us online. You get protection AND the added value of being able to pass along a full warranty with the card should you sell or otherwise transfer it. Now that's a Double Lifetime Warranty!
Curly
I RMA'd something to XFX not long ago, just register it, and then follow the steps, you pay postage, but that aint to bad.
I believe the double lifetime warranty is for US residents only.
They dont seem to actually have an official policy for europe, but I had no problems.Originally Posted by mart_haj86
I don't know much about this kinda thing but one of my mates had artifacts and stuff with an old 6600, we tried the card on my system and it worked. It turned out that the card was fine but his processor wasn't fast enough, meaning the card wasn't receiving the information quickly enough. This could be different because his artifacts looked more like gray sellotape.
my processor is an FX-55! if that's too slow for it then i'd be VERY suprised! thanks for the suggestion, though.Originally Posted by BlindMelon7
It's starting to look like your card has just hit the end of it's run, I'd register on the XFX website and ask if they're willing to replace it. only problem wyou have then is finding a GFX card to use in the mean time.Originally Posted by altitude2k
Has to be dodgy RAM.

Not had any problems with my XFX 6600GT despite the heat.Originally Posted by altitude2k
well it's my second one to go wrong, so you can't really blame me for being under-impressed. anyways, have registered and left a ticket with the help desk, hopefully they'll get back to me before i go away next week (which would be sweet if its sorted for when i get back). thanks for the help, guys.Originally Posted by MAdMaN
i take it you haven't been unlocking pipelines with riva tuner. (don't think 6600s have ones to unlock not sure)
ati tool has a test for artifacts that workd with nvidia cards probably pretty useless to you but may be of use to some one else if they are not sure whether they are getting them or not.
Another thing to bear in mind with the temperature sensors on a computer / computer equipment is that the error in their reading changes with the temperature of the components.
Thermocouples tend to over-report at low temperatures and then under-report as the temperature gets higher. I would give you a dinky little graphic showing the response curve, but it is different for every type of thermocouple.
Since the problem has showed up during the hot weather and you said that only at that stage you cleaned the dust and stuff off the heatsink and fan. the insulation afforded by the dust has allowed the components to get REALLY hot. Since the kit is now over a year old, those crappy heat transfer pads use on the memory chips are probably knackered and this has caused the memory failure. Here ends the voice of doom and gloom.
Hope XFX comethrough on the warranty for you.
If it's under warranty then get the thing RMA'ed, could be the RAM, could be a dodgy pipeline or even a shader. I have an XFX 6800le and if I attempt to open 1 of the pipelines I get similar artifacting.
