    PSU questions

    I'm needing to upgrade my psu from the standard in a PC World Compaq. It's AMD Athlon bought in 2005, but I don't know the actual mobo type.

    I'm thinking of the Tagan TG480 U-22 psu..........is there a possibility that it won't be compatible?
    I don't need SLI just now, but may in the future, but the description/reviews I've seen don't state it has it, but has the wording "two independent EMI shielded PCI-Express VGA connectors"which puzzles this computer & gaming novice....

    Can some kind soul illuminate.....?

    They are to support SLI systems where the PCI-E gfx cards have their own independant power connectors.

    Will it fit your system? Dunno, is it a full tower or a micro-atx case? Also, I'm not sure if Compaq use ATX standard PSUs or if they "customise" like Dell.

    Full tower, I don't know exactly what ATX is but the standard psu is the "regular" shape & it's a 300w Hipro......?

    Atx is the current standard and I think Compaq use standard parts so I dont see a problem by changing your psu but just to make sure measure the Hipro psu and compare it against whatever you choose.

    Doesn't sound like there'll be a problem. The Tagan is a good choice too.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Thanks chaps. Dimensions are 'standard', so that's fine, Scan seems to be the best price,-
    decision made.

    The dimensions weren't the only non-standard thing on the Dells - they also mucked about the pin layout. Having said that, I think I remember working on a Compaq a while back - IIRC they are standard ATX mobos & PSUs.

    Ok scrandman, thanks. It's already ordered, but thanks for the reassurance.
