    How's this for a budget spec?

    I'm just looking to build a "general" home PC (no gaming). Just surfing, emailage etc

    Here's the spec I'm looking at:

    AMD Sempron 2800+ socket 754 CPU
    MSI K8T NEO-V, KBT800 socket 754 mobo
    Crucial DDR400 PC3200 512MB RAM

    I can upgrade an existing base unit for about £100 with the above...

    • teachmech's system
      • Motherboard:
      • Foxconn P45A
      • CPU:
      • Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz
      • Memory:
      • 4 GB Corsair PC6400
      • Storage:
      • Samsung F1 500 Gb + 500 Gb Seagate
      • Graphics card(s):
      • ATI 4870
      • PSU:
      • 630 Watt Hiper
      • Case:
      • 36cm Side fan xcilo
      • Operating System:
      • Vista Home Permium
      • Monitor(s):
      • LG 19 inch Widscreen
      • Internet:
      • Tiscali ADSL Max
    Even just for general use I would go for 1Gb of ram rather than just 512Mb it would smooth things out and as you are using socket 754 just buy a single 1Gb stick.

    You can get an AM2 Sempron for the same (or less) than a 754 Sempron. DDR2 is cheaper than DDR1 and an AM2 board with onboard VGA can be got for only a few quid more than an S754 board.

    Just food for thought.
