Wireless block

Hi folks,

Yesterday I installed a wireless router in a local church's offices with the view that folks could hotdesk around the building using their laptops.

Anyhoo, everything is cool except for the fact the wireless signal won't reach one corner of the building. This corner is behind a toilet block and I was just wondering if anybody knew of any fairly simple ways we can get around this?

I even loaned one of the higher spec rangemax routers (the one with the seven internal antenna and the big flashing lite on top) and this would'nt get to this corner either!

get a booster/or a repeater and stick it over in the corner? or tell them not to go in the corner lol

church = THICK walls.... just a thought. You could add an access point at in line of site of both if the walls are a prob, or a high gain antenna (normally used outdoors but may work)

depends if its one of these new aged churches that are just jumped up village halls

thanks, d3fiant, it's more of a glorified community centre than westminister abbey :-). Also, coz office is a round the back of the toilet block, line of sit won't work :-( thanks, karl.

I was thinking about running cat5 across the loftspace - dropping the end into the troublesome building corner and attaching an accesspoint to it - any thoughts? Thanks, Nimble.

Buy a Linksys WRT54G, flash it with DD-WRT firmware and whack up the transmit power

Yeah that sounds fine, though if you are thinking of going into the loft... How about a ceiling antenna? You could mount the access point in the loft (might need POE or a long extension cable for power...) with a short pigtail to the dome antenna. This would need to be either centred so the downward cone of radio waves hits all areas or offset / angled to achieve the desired coverage. You would of course require a an AP with a connector for an external antenna...

Another solution would be to use some ethernat over mains (homeplug) kit...

A link from the router to the first homeplug unit then the second one could be one of the wireless extender types (basically a pount to point link over the mains with an access point tagged on the end).

i have a rangemax router atm, and the signal is diabolical.... worse than my previous belkin...
