Well the motherboard link you just posted is ECS, not Gigabyte.
ECS are still good thought, so i dont think you have been ripped off. It's not El Cheapo. The most important aspect is the chipset, which is the Intel 865, and is regarded very highly as being reliable.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

got a tube of arctic silver here somewhere..
    When did your problem start?
A reboot or 2 after the sound card was installed?

I would time how long it takes to boot if you remove the card - at the least it will rule out the sound card (drivers) as the boot delay.

If you are going to look through Event Viewer then you need to double-click the event to see the details, the event code & text are needed as well as the type & source.
Service Control Manager entries might be interesting, especially if they are warning or error types.

Hi, not weird at all, i thought it might have been taking a while to initialize so i put in another brand new dvd burner, still the same thing, although i will try it without one completely when i come home at lunch time when i have enough time to wait for the blasted restarts..
    thanks for the reply.

I had this prob last year when I installed a gfx card. I didn't disable the onboard IGP at first and the system ran really slow through boot up and beyond. Disabling onboard worked for me, so give it a try, that might sort it.

One thing which can cause Windows to take a long time to boot up is if it is trying to acquire an IP address by DHCP and eventually it times out and the system boots. Remove or disable in BIOS any network cards and IEEE1394 Firewire interfaces and see if the problem goes away, then re-enable one by one until you find the culprit.

All users can save a bit of boot up time by assigning a static IP address to their machine and connecting to a router.
