    Ram Speeds, Tad confused :S

Im considering buy one of the new C2D's probably the E6400. I noticed it had a 1066Mhz FSB. When choosing my ram, does that mean i have to buy PC2-8500 (1066Mhz) Ram?. If so, i have really seen much about.
    Can anyone help me?

no man..you don't, but I have no idea either
    I think they run DDR2 533/667/800

Wait for one of the uber techy's to point you to the correct ram, for the best value etc.

Scan sell Corsair ram, and would actually be able to tell you what to buy, in their forum too.

I'm gonna copy this thread into another forum too, to gain some hits.

The basic bus speed on C2D is 266 MHz. Double it and you have the 533 MHz of basic DDR2.
However the motherboards have dividers so you can run the memory faster than the basic bus speed, ie you can use 667 MHz memory with a C2D.
To overclock you increase the basic bus speed which increases memory speed which is why you need the faster 800+ MHz DDR2 memory.

Hopefully this all makes some sense, its a lot easier when you actually have the system in front of you to play with.

Depending on what you're planning on doing with your Allendale, basic no-frills RAM may well do you fine.

As Hottentot says, it's generally for overclocking that you'll need the more expensive stuff, when you're trying for uber-high FSBs

Cheers for the advice, decided to go with a Intel 805 as a stop gap measure unitl i can afford my C2D, got it for £40 of ebay, so i was quite impressed. Brand new as well.
but im not planning to overclock, so some bog standard crucial will do me im sure,
I've heard that most of there stuff is of good quality whether it cheap or expensive anyway.

1066Mhz FSB is great, but you can get by with 533mhz ram as most (if not all) Core 2 motherboards suport dual channel ram, thus 2 sticks of 533mhz ram will equate to 1 large stick running at 1066mhz (yes I know it is more technical than that, but it boils down to the same thing) if you want the extra overclocking ability in the future, go for 667mhz ram or faster.
