    What to do now?

Just finished building my new pc with the following specs:

    cpu: E6600
    mobo: ASUS P5B
    gfx: 7900GTX
    ram: 2gig corsair XMS2 6400
    psu: seasonic S12
    hdd: SATA samsung spinpoint 160gig

After i've built it, what am i supposed to do to install XP? I got a CD with the mobo, but if i boot up, i get POST and then it goes to:

Make JMicron JMB36X 32bit RAID Driver disk
Make JMicron JMB36X 64bit RAID Driver disk

What am i supposed to do?

If i try and put in the XP disk it POSTS and then a flashing _ on a black screen just appears and does nothing.

    Cheers for help,
    Chris.

Well you probably need a floppy with the RAID drivers on regardless, and when XP install disk starts running it will say something like "PRESS F6 FOR THIRD PARTY RAID AND SCSI DRIVERS" and then after it does some other stuff it will ask you for the driver floppy. So you should run that make driver disk thing, I guess use the 32bit one.

I'm not sure about your other problem though, it must boot from CD correctly cos you managed to get the other CD to run. What should happen is it should say "Press any key to enter Windows XP setup..." or something like that, does the disk definitely work (can u see if another machine reads it?)

EDIT: Actually never mind you probably don't need the raid drivers I just realised you just got the 1 spinpoint.

Have you set the boot order of the drives in your system? It may be that your hdd is set before your optical drive...

Right i'll run through what i've done.

    1) Set boot options to boot ATAPI CD-ROM (theres also another CD-ROM listed, the CD ROM thats installed...but i thought you are supposed to do ATAPI.

    2) Run the mobo disc, and get the options i put in my first post

    3) Insert a floppy and do the "Make JMicron JMB36X 32bit RAID Driver disk" It does something, writes some files to the floppy

    4) Change boot options to boot from floppy

    5) Message appears "Remove disc or other media. Press any key to restart"

    6) Remove the floppy and "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key"

    7) Try putting in XP disk "Couldn't find NTLDR"

    8) Give up and come here So, any ideas?

I always set up to the cdrom that is installed. You don't need raid drivers as you only have one disc. Set it to boot from the drive that is installed and go from there.

All sorted now, turns out it was the CD drive that wouldn't read XP. Changed it and it worked fine. Just don't get why the other one read the mobo disc but not XP. Oh well fine now !

    Cheers for your help.
