    Thumbs down bleeping annoying

Okay, my pc is down and help would be appreciated.

I've got a asus p4s8x motherboard for socket 478 p4 2.4 (533 fsb, non-ht). A couple of weeks ago it started bleeping. High and mid tone bleeps in an irregular but steady stream. At first it was not alot and tolarable but it grew to a torrent of annoying bleeps. I thought it might be a warning about temperature or wotnot but used a cpu monitor and all seemed good.

So i went into the bios, saw in there the cpu temp etc. was okay and was looking for a way to turn off the bleeping but started playing with theoverclocking settings that i had not seen before. I tried an 'improvement' and rebooted. The voice came on ..."startup fails due to hardware overclocking". Okay I'll go back into the bios and reset everything. ohh i can't becuase it won't get that far...next step manually reset the bios by removing the cmos battery and changing a jumper for a few secs. Now i can boot into the bios and it say i need to reboot again to set the cpu up. I do and then i get back to my Grub screen for choosing linux or windows but i can't choose any option with up or down on my keyboard as normal and the screen stays there even though it should auto load linux after a few secs. So in reboot and press del for the bios - it allows that- but again i can't click on left or right to choose menus. It does not respond to ctrl-alt-del. Tried two differnet keyboards.
My question is is my chip fried or is my motherboard or is there something else i can do if you guys think it is just my keyboard module that is gone?? A tricky one, isn't it!
I.E. Shall i pay £30 for replacemtn 478 or should i upgrade the whole lot?
Thanks for your opinions in advanced.

have you got a serial (PS2) keyboard to connect to your computer? It sounds like you must have accidentally changed the boot order of your hard drive(s) as well...

    hmm..

both the ones I've tried were ps2 ones. interesting idea bout the boot order as i head two hdds in it. i changed it so only omne was connected and tried both hdds on their own. I can now get into the bios and the keyboard still works, and i reset to the default settings and plugged both hdds back in and it booted into linux. hurry!! shame it's still bleeping away..i can't find a way to turn the damb noise off mut i guess i should ask on an asus forum. I think it might have been that i was not supposed to change the cpu settings without being 'jumper free mode' an d i wasn't. Now if only i can shut those bleeps up.
    Thanks for your help anyhow.

Well, if you want to remove the beep you can just pull the "speaker" cable from your motherboard.

    yep.,.

looks like thats what i'll have to do. I am still a bit worried that it is really trying to tell me about an error of some sort but i think it probably just a malfunction, at least it's now working a guess. Thanks for your help.
