    little problem..i hope :o

i sold my 9800 pro on ebay fully working e.t.c but the guy that has it now said this:
    Apolgies for the quality of
photography. The fan spins on startup, but I get 8
beeps formt he bios - indicating failure to access
    video memory.

The pin on the right of the 4 point connector is
black. It looks like it's been subject to a surge or
similar. Also, one of screw pins that holds the plate
to the card is missing. Not critical, but not quite
'mint' either. ( by plate I mean the thing you can see
in the back of the PC and that you stick the VGA cable
    onto)

the 'black stuff' on one of the molex pins was caused by a spark i accidently caused... but i did that ages ago and totally forgot about that

and is this true? about the 8 beeps? i wouldnt have a clue.. it always worked for me the gfx card... so can u guys please suggest what i do? i really am baffled, i sent it via special delivery.

It could be that its not getting enough power although that wouldn;t normally be a problem until he goes to do something graphics intensive, like play a game. Ask him what wattage PSU he is using, if its a 300 watt or lower he'll need a higher wattage one. Also, cleaning the blackened pin is a must to ensure a decent connection. What mobo is he using?

Don't mind at all. It's a MSI KT6V, with an Athlon XP 1500+. Power
    supply is
an FSP 350W PSU, so in excess of the Ati recommendations.

he emailed me this.. aw well dunno what to do now :S

hhmmm, it may be a BIOS set up problem.

Whilst the 350 watt PSU may be sufficient to get it started, it will depend very much on him having little else installed to run a game. I couldn't get a 9800 pro to run on 350 watts on my system.

BIOS wise, he needs to make sure that the AGP voltage is set to auto in the Frequency/Voltage Control section. Also, if he is overclocking, he needs to try using normal settings before he claims a fault (including disabling the Dynamic Overclocking setting in BIOS).

Also he should check that he has the latest BIOS version (but please use the floppy method to update as the liveupdate is apparently unreliable).

MSI have a very good forum of their own for support issues, he or you may do well to consult that with this problem.
