Stuck Sony memory card in SD card slot on laptop...
Well, as the title says my neighbour has inserted a sony memory card without the adaptor into an SD card and its got stuck.
trouble is it seems to have dropped right inside ( a good half inch) and we cant get tweesers round it. small screwdrivers have also failed.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to do this without removing the chassis as I think that would invalidate the waranty.
The laptop is an Asus and like 2 days old :(
How to get a STUCK memorystick duo (w/o adapter) out of an SD slot
Utensils needed:
1. Flashlight (the brighter the better)
2. Tiny nail file (like comes in a little purse nail kit)
3. The accessory adapter for the memory stick duo (the plastic housing 'duo' part)
Shine the flashlight into the slot with the stuck card. It's wayyy in there, right?
Notice which side the gold "prongs" are on. These will keep it from coming back out if not accounted for.
Using the adapter part of your memory stick duo, slowly slide it in to COVER these prongs with the full (flat) side of the adapter (NOT the cut-away semi-circle side) as you slide it into the slot. Wiggle it around a little if necessary to get it to slide onto the stuck card.
Now, take the tiny nail file, hold it flat & carefully work it down into the opposite side you just worked on, into the gap between the stuck card & the slot wall.
Now use the file to press the stuck card (the side that will now be in the semi-circle of the adapter) into the middle of the adapter (away from the card slot wall) as you slowly start to pull it out. Take your time. Wiggling the adapter back & forth AFTER you have snugged it onto the stuck card will help to free the card. You are just using the nail file to keep the card from getting snagged along the slot wall to help the removal process.
It should slide out fairly easily using this method.
Congratulations! You didn't destroy your memory card OR your SD slot, AND...you'll never make that mistake again!
:)
Re: Stuck Sony memory card in SD card slot on laptop...
WOW
i just got this stupid sony card out
i tried using toothpicks, i tried small metal tools.. i really didnt want to use metal though as i was affraid i'd damage something.. so what i did was..
i got a small key chain credit card thing, not a credit card but like the key chain passes you have for a gym, or for a gas card, or in my case, a "Borders reward carD" - i will post a picture. i cut the side of it off so it would fit in the slot. i slid it UNDER the SONY card and then propped it forward...it jumped about halfway forward. not all the way tho... so i kept at it.. what finally worked was sliding the card UNDER the sony card, turning the computer upright, and then propping.
ok i cant post the picture in here because im a new member so you'll have to use your imagination sorry

YAY! Thanks to Somechick, her method worked. After shaking (not good), needles, (not good) I tried the upside down duo adapter, and it came out first time!
Thanks again and you're right, I will not be doing that again!!!!!
