Static bag, which type?

I'm about to move to uni and I'm taking the HDDs with me (and shipping the rest of the machines down), what type of static bag should I be using?

Just realize I don't have enough at home and I'll need to order some (probably from ebay).

I'm moving down on friday and have to finish packaging on thursday

I see some saying "metal-out", "metal-in", "pink".

Which one should I be ordering?

I'll go out to the nearby computer shop later and see if I can get some from them cheaply

Just wrap them in tinfoil if you want something cheap.

Just sending the systems as a whole will work ok. So long as you have a decent courier. The case will act as a good enough earth. Plenty of bubble wrap and a decent box is all you need.

I'd advise removing the CPU heatsink before shipping if it's a large one.

If you can see how many harddrives I got in there you would imagine the chance of failure is a lot higher and I got to be as safe as possible...

Personally I consider a large metal box very safe

Hard drives are one of the hardest things to damage in transit. Most can take 400-500G once turned off. Apart from being physically smashed or crushed, they'll carry on working. You can also hire specialist IT couriers.

I've moved my PC incl. 6 drives many times.

If you really want to remove them, then you want static shielding bags/anti-static bags. 'pink' bags are used to transport something that may become charged through a zero static area.

I considered leaving them in but my case (Xaser III) is side-mounting and if they get too much shock it might snap off the SATA connectors

I'll keep those remaining in my eclipse 62 then. But still I need those bags

The pink bags are dirt cheap (i.e. 4p each) but the metal bags are like 40p

The xaser is chunky steel (if you got the black one anyway). The pink bags are dirt cheap because they dont need to have as much impendence. Unless you're moving a few hundred drives, 40p each isn't going to break the bank.

I told you already, just wrap them in tinfoil, no need for bags at all.
There's nothing 'special' about anti-static bags except for the fact that they are reusable. You will need to provide extra padding for shipment in any case.
