Question Please help - Unable to connect to website

    Hi all!

Got a problem that I'm completely stumped by! I am unable to connect to the Scan website and have been unable to do so for 4 days or so now. I haven't got this problem with any other website that I've tried and apparently there's no probs with Scans server so it must be a problem at my end ,however I've got no clue where! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you running behind a proxy (you may be if it's a school/college connection). Are you using some exoctic browser?

Those are the two most obvious culprits.

Just found out I can connect to website only when I've got my proxy turned on. This obviously isn't ideal as it's extremely slow to do so. Any ideas?

It sounds like something is deliberatly blocking it. Have you accidentaly blacklisted it with something?

You could try the ole' turn off all firewalls etc. and try again.

    Thanks for replies so far!

Turned off firewall but to no avail :-(

When I ping the website using cmd line I get the reply 'TTL expired in transit'

I haven't got a clue what this means but perhaps someone out there will!

it means that the packets essentially aren't getting to the scan website - run tracert www.scan.co.uk from command line and post the results.

I have had this problem with some sites before, try flushing your dns "start/run/cmd and enter ipconfig /flushdns"

If that doesnt work try rebooting your modem/router and see what happens then.

What browser are you using and is it fully upto date?

    Also try downloading this, http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg
Save it to the desktop. Double-click on it to merge it with the registry, and OK any prompts. Then restart your computer, run Internet Explorer and try to access those sites, and let me know if the problems remain.

Guess what? All of a sudden I seem to be able to connect to the website no problem!!!

In a way, that's even more annoying cos I haven't got a clue what was causing the problem in the first place

Oh well, at least it seems to be sorted

    Thanks for all the help!
