    OEM Windows

    I just finished building my brothers computer and everything is looking fine, however, I think my copy of windows may be an oem one (it doesn't say any where on the disc but the validation sticker thing says its oem) am i going to have to buy xp again?

    Technically yes, however, if it was your old system rebuilt after hardware failure, they may be able to reactivate it if you phone them up. Otherwise, its time for a new OEM copy.

    Is Linux an option? Thats free isn't it (stingy)? The computer is mainly for gaming/msn.

    I'm sure DirectHex could point you in the correct direction - I have personally tried Debian & Fedora - but haven't really had the time to learn to use them to their full extent (I'm lazy)

    install, activate, if it says you need to phone then you say its had to have a new motherboard, they will allow it and away you go..

    of course my post does not exist and i have not done this b4...

    you are imagining reading this reply.. its just a acid flashback .. move along...

    (and if its anything like my OEM office that i have installed on all my upgrades without having to call once it may "just work")
