Slot DVD-RW Drives?

Does anyone own, or know where i can purchase a Slot loading DVD-RW drive (i guess they would look like a normal 5.25" bay, only without the tray...pretty much like the PS3 and Wii disk loading mechanism)...and if you do own one...would you recomend me buying one, or are the troublesome...questions, questions, questions

you'll prob have to buy a Plextor drive if your looking for a slot loading DVD-RW, although i'd be diving deep into my pockets for one. Tbh id just get a decent tray loading one

the only down side of them is that they only take regular sized/shaped CDs. This isn't a big deal really, there was a craze a few years ago for business card shaped CDs, but thankfully most people have forgotten about them

I spent hours looking at this on monday.
Indeed, Plextor is your only hope for full height slot.
The design looks odd 'cos it ejects at the top and not the middle.
I could not find cheaper than about £80.

One possible frankenstein idea might be to get a laptop slotty, with a IDE adaptor and somehow "weld" it in. They are a lot cheaper. But not normally no more than 8x.

The slot being at the top is normal. I had a Pioneer slot loading SCSI DVD-ROM back in the day which was the same basic design. These should line up with the slot on the front of a HTPC case if there is one.

I'd actually be surprised if you couldn't get a bracket to change a slim line laptop style drive to fit a regular 5.24" bay

hmmm thanx guys...Plextor does appear to be the only makers on the market. A friend of mine came to me with a good point. If i have a problem with my tray loading drive, and there is a disk still inside....all i have to do is stick a pin in or rip the tray off (lets fave it, there not that expensive these days if they go arry), but what would i do if i disk got stuck in a slot loader. Don't get me wrong, this isnt the SOLE reason why im going to hold off, it would be nice if they were more widly available (and i do have a soft spot for Lite-On) Never mind. Thanks for all ypur help people! Most appreciated.

Slot loaders also have a pin hole manual eject

ahh cool, well im still not to sure about them yet :S although they are really cool (IMO)
