Stuck!! Qs on my 1st build ps!

I am a wee bit stuck,i have looked for info but to no avail. So i am hoping you guys may be able to help Ps I'm in the middle of building my 1st PC and its gone OK upto now Right i have a Asrock dual sata 939 board with a 4800 x2 cpu. Ive installed the cpu/Ram and all the drives all i need to do now is add my pcie card (7900gs) and my old Audigy 2 soundcard. But whats confusing me is the jumper settings,do i need to adjust any if i add my soundcard? Also apart from cpu fan i have 2 other fans 1 front & 1 Rear but i can only find 1 connection on mobo to fit it (cha fan1) Do i attatched the other fan via one of the 4pin molex leads thats attatched to each fan ...I know i know Dont Laugh

Dont have to do anything for soundcard jumpers. It should see it and siable onboard. Just check in the BIOS before hand
As for the fans - they usualy have more than 2 headers, check the manual. If not, then its fine to attach it to the molex (you'll need an adapter though if its a 3pin white connector )

Thanks Agent! Yes typican there is only 1 fan header (and cpu)! Do you know what i need to set the audigy to in the bios ps?

just make sure you turn off the setting for either on board sound or the Ac;97 entry in the BIOS - its likely to be one or the other.

Windows will detect the Audigy when you do your windows install...

Yup, nothing special needs to be done.
The BIOS should see the new soundcard and disable the onboard one. Very rare it doesnt. As Matt said, it will probably be under "AC97", or "onboard sound".
Make sure you dont attach any cables to the onboard sound outputs. I had a board that wouldnt let it be disabled as there was a microphone plugged into the port !

What i am dreading is if my oem xp wont work! I'm hoping i can Tel MS and get a new No! Tell em my cpu broke on original pc and had to do a overhaul of mobo cpu etc...

Note: I have the Thermaltake soprano which was reco'd by a few people. But i would not reco this to anyone because:
1/ Its flimsy as hell and i cant see it being quiet
2/ My PSU (Hiper 580w modular) did not fit i had to take the fan grill off the back!
3/ pci cards do not match up with screws to hold it in properly....Watch this space!

that doesnt sound right, is the motherboard definately in right? sometimes cases are a little bit out, but quite often when a card wont slot in properly, the actual backplate of the card is slightly bent, especially on dual slot graphics cards, so its worth checking that

Oh its definatly in right just slightly out of line,the case has plastic snaps to hold them in so i will just use those they seem ok!
Another slight Hic! As i said before the fans have 2x 4 pin molex in & out leads as well as a 3 pin, which i would imagine either one can be used to connect....But theres only 1 yllow wire attatched Dont seem right how can a fan work with 1 wire

the molex is the power and the single will plug onto a fan header for monitoring the fan speed.

Ahh Thats the one! Thank you Clunk! So no fans actually power straight from the mobo! "You can tell i aint done this before " As there is only 1 fan header on the mobo which is the one i need to put to it frnt or bck? Thnx

dont feel daft, thats not really a common way for fans to work. usually, they either have the little 3 pin plug on them with 3 wires if they have the rpm monitoring, or 2 wires if not, or just a large 4 pin molex.

Some motherboards dont like too many fans taking power from them, even if they have lots of headers.

You should put the CPU fan wire to the header on the board if it has the correct type of plug, if not, it doesnt matter, as long as something is plugged in....some motherboards wont boot unless there is a fan plugged into the CPU fan header on the motherboard.

I have connected all 3 fans via 4 pin molexes and have got the cpu in the 'cpu fan' there is only 1 other header called 'chassis fan' i was going to put the back fan on that but its too short so i will put the front fan as the lead fits just right! But the 2 other fans (back & door) will not have their yellow wired 3 pin plugs connected is that ok!

yeah, thats fine, unless you really care how fast your case fans are going
