any way to test ethernet pci card

i needed an extra ethernet connection so added a pci card with one on it a d-link brand.
Now i can only get one light on it and it was to take a router but the router diagnostics report that it cant connect, tried a network printer and came up with the same fault, tried the router into an other port and it works so i know the add-on card is at fault but don't know if its hardware or software fault.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Robert

I used to have a 530TX D-link card which wouldn't work with the drivers off their site... They had as it turned out, posted the wrong drivers in the zip file! I would try to identify the card first (chipset) and then find some generic drivers. If that doesn't work then it probably is a faulty card.
