Installing games from DVD vs CD

My DVD/CD reader/writer never had this problem before. I have games on both CD and DVD. I bought all of them and have installed all of them on my computer before. I recently got a new hard drive and now I have a problem. I can only install games from CD's but when it comes to DVD's I have a problem. The drive will either not see it or will just freeze up. I tried more than one DVD and had the same problem with both. CD's give me no problems. Am I missing a codec or something?

    ADD NOTE:
I did install Medal of Honor Pacific Assault earlier today and that was a DVD. So I guess the problem is new as of today. Also, I have used these CD/DVD drives many times before and never had this problem. Thanks in advance.

optical drives have a finite lifespan, and usually it's one of the two lasers that goes (dvd or cd, rarely both at once)

I have 2 CD/DVD drives. My newest one isn't even a year old. And it is just funny how they both went at the same time. Something had to cause this. But what? Also, is there a program out there that can test if it is the laser or a missing driver or whatever? Thanks.

you could boot a different OS (e.g. linux), to see whether it's an OS problem

That's definitely worth a try. Did you reinstall windows from scratch when you installed your new hard drive?

Might even be worth trying CD Lens Cleaner disk.
