    Problem..

    Hi chaps

I recently re-installed my puter with XP pro SP2, and now have a problem which is baffling me.

Basically if I try to play any game, approx 3-4 minutes into the game, the frame rate plummets and the whole thing becomes choppy.

This happens If I turn my AVG Anti-Virus off, so its not AVG, and I leave my SPZ firewall on. No other programs are running apart from my BT Voyager 205 modem (which I hate with a passion and will replace with a wireless router when we move)

If I start up FS2004, approximately 4 minutes into the flight it becomes a slideshow, I've tried various Nvidia drivers, still the same problem. If I alt-tab back to desktop and back again it becomes smooth for a little while, but then starts to slideshow again.

Task manager doesn't seem to show anything other than system idle using most of the CPU % when I call it up

Any ideas peeps ? I'm stumped

    Win XP PRo SP2
    P4D 2.8
    Intel D995Xbk motherboard
    1Gb DDR2 (2 x 512)
    GF 6800GS
    80G Maxtor

    AVG Anti-Virus
    BT Voyager 205

You checked if the fan on the graphic card is working properly? It sounds like it's overheating and then throttling down.

When you say that you have turned off AVG, how have you done it?
Right-clicking and quit/exit/shutdown does not kill all AVG services, there are still 3 avgXXXXX services running...
