duff drive ??
i got a maxtor 160 gig drive in one of my pc, now windows keeps wanting to run scan disk on it for some unknow reasion, after runing maxtor power tools i noted someing odd, windows says it's ntfs, maxtor power tools says fat 16, i think windows is telling me lies because i'm runing spinrite and that says fat 16 as well, any iders on whats wrong with it ?

Well according to microsoft the maximum partition size for fat16 is 4gb:

If you've got a 160gb as one fat16 partition I think something is very wrong.

Being 160GB it will have to be either NTFS or FAT32. If you installed Windows onto the drive it will most likely be NTFS.
Do you mean everytime you restart your computer windows checks the disk for consistency just before it boots into windows?
Did the Maxtor tools throw up any errors?

i would run the fixmbr command from recovery console along with the fixboot command
