Unhappy Help required regarding corrupted folders!!!

    Hii,
Recently I’ve faced a serious problem in my PC
I am having 3 partitions on my computer (HDD Seagate 250 GB SATA/windows Prof. with SP 2)
My pc was showing errors in my E drive partition during startup, so when I ran scandisk on my drive, many folders (which contained mostly avi,dat,mp3 files) have been corrupted, I mean the entire folder has turned into small file of 4 kb without any extension. I have also tried defragmenting the drive. but still same results. so is this some kinda virus or Hdd problem ?? and are those folders gone forever...or is there a way to recover them?? :-(
Please can any one advice how to recover data again…?
    Many thanks in advance.

the 4kb files are what was recovered from the corrupt part of your harddrive.. defrag will do nothing... i'm not sure if there are any tools to 'reconstruct' those files, but i'd say that they'd be gone forever...
