Simply put, latest (october DirectX) is buggy, and I need to roll back to anything previous.
System restore didn't help. I tried a couple of free uninstallers and they all just crashed with unexpected problems.
Any windows Guru's know better?

Is it buggy? It seems to work ok for me - sure it's not a game problem?
Well ok, yes, a microsoft game that works fine with previous DirectX versions (Dungeon Siege) now doesn't work correctly with the october release of DirectX.
Tested on:
AMD X2 3800+ latest driver +AMD DC optimiser
2gb RAM
Geforce 6800GT 84.56 drivers
ASRock Dual Sata 2 latest drivers 2.10 bios
winXP SP2 fully updated
Intel Core2Duo E6300
2gb ram
Intel GMA950 latest drivers
ASRock 945g-dvi latest drivers BIOS 1.20
winXP SP2 fully updated
In both cases updating to October DirectX has caused black flickering in DS.
MS won't be patching DS any time soon.
seriously the hassle of rolling back is just way overwhelming the advantages... trust me you most likely have to format to be back to stable.... thought about updating ur graphics card drivers as well?
Just had me worried - i've recently reinstalled and updated DX and don't want to do it again!
Have a look on Guru3D.com, theres a DX rollback tool on there IIRC. :)
