    hard drive help: urgent

i am wanting to install media center on my pc, but to do this i want to back up onto my second drive that i have just got.

basically i in the past just had a sata drive: now i installed the 200 gig maxtor asa slave, its ide not sata, in the bios it finds it as the slave and 200 gitg, i log in and it says new device found ect, and its in device manager as working, but it doesnt appear in my computer as a drive.

so does anyone know why this is as i really need to get my stuff backed up, and i woudl like to have a second drive, it says it all works fine i just cant see it???

    thank you very much

edit, in device manager it says im missing "pdi kernal port device driver" what is this and would it affect this problem. thanks

you could try registering the drive through computer management.

Start > control panel > admin tools > computer management > disk management.

You should see your drive in there as un-allocated space, right click on it and select format.
