Anyone use steam around here? i dont use it much but since i already had halflife i decided to give steam a try and get CS by them. Problem is i am about to format my pc and it will take ages to install steam again (updating, downloading games...) really dont want to go trought that again so is there a way to save the games so i dont need to download them again?
I think u can create a backup by right clciking on the game

Actually it only took like 7mins but my files are only 1.6gb so... these timers are never accurate and often create the most funny bugs.
hum... how do i use the backup files after i install steam once again? Cant find a option to load these files again.
the backups produce an installer (.exe), and large data files. the data files are either DVD or CD-sized, usually.
run the installer.
no installer only 3 files (.sim .sid .sis )
never used it - there were reported problems when restoring - not sure if there still there.
I personally jsut file copy the valve\steamapps\YOUREMAIL directory somewhere else.
Re-install PC
Download steam from steampowered.com
login to steam a/c (all games will be unavailable)
logout
copy steamapps folder back again
login - all should be well.
IF you're having wierd graphical glithces on maps I would re-download content from STEAM (overnight i guess) - normally sorts most things out.

I just backed up the entire Program Files\Steam directory from my old PC and then unzipped it onto my new PC. The only thing missing were my start menu items, but these were easy enough to make.
just copy the .cjf files from wherever they are in the steam folder, because that file is basically the game
I literally just copy the steam folder and save to another HDD.
My Steam is getting to be over 35GB, so DVDs are a no no.
