Re-Installed XP - Now constantly reboots?

    Hi all,

I reinstalled XP today (been about 10months, was starting to need it)...
Everything went fine/normal.. but when it gets to the XP loading screen, the bar goes across about 3 times then the machine reboots?

Comes up with the "Windows did not start properly" message the second time, choosing safe mode results in the system stopping at Mup.sys and then rebooting after a few seconds.
I've googled about the Mup.sys there seems to be thousands of different solutions, none seem applicable to me (I think it's the item that is being loaded next that is causing the problem, not Mup.sys itself).

I've tried installing XP from an original disc (no SP), same problem, and also from a disc with SP2 slipstreamed on it. :/

    System:
    Epox 9NPA+ Nforce4
    2 HDDs in striped raid
Using the drivers during windows install (for RAID) from the latest Nforce driver set from the folder ide/sataraid (it does complete the setup so I reckon that means it is reading/writing to the RAID ok..).

    Help?
It's been driving me crazy for about 5 hours now.. I've ran out of things to try.

    Cheers.

This is the exact same problem I'm getting (thread title Windows XP Boot Problem).

..interesting, I managed to get it to install using only one disk (unplugged the other one, planning to make the raid once windows is running using NV tool).. first thing I did was to install the latest Nvidia nforce drivers.. and it kills it again on reboot (i.e. the old keep rebooting problem once windows tries to load).

    Argh!

I'm onto my (about) seventh install of windows now, going to try an older version of the nvidia drivers that I was using before trying to re-install windows... hopefully that will work then I can build the array again.
If I can't build the array in Windows I will have to look for the disc that came with my mobo to get the raid drivers from that, then re-install windows again onto the raid using those drivers! (pretty sure that worked originally so it should work again).. the question is, wheres my damn epox disc

This is definitely something to do with a windows update. I just fixed it on my system by disabling USB in the bios, and windows booted 1st time. Re-enabled USB, and windows still works, so give that a try.

    Cheers for the tip,
But I figured it out this afternoon after several hours of banging my head on the table.

Hopefully this will help anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation.

It seems the latest Nforce drivers (and 'sataraid' drivers from any version of the nforce drivers) are not compatable with Epox boards (or at least they're not with the 9NPA+ Ultra).
Since I cannot find my original epox disc I grabbed RAID_NV-NF4-5[1].10.2600.0518_NP series-XP.zip from Epox.com.tw site which is pretty much the thing they provide on bundled discs.

The utility CBF.exe within this archive will create a RAID boot floppy but will not copy "nvcchflt.sys" you will have to copy this onto the floppy manually (found that out the hard way).

Using this disk during Windows install went fine, and everything is ok
It's also worth noting that installing 6.86 Nforce4 drivers with this board will cause the same constant reboot problem, so I am sticking with 6.70.

    Phew.
